Stephanie Matthews

 

Stephanie is a medical biochemist with a specialist expertise in cholesterol and heart disease, and food intolerance, pioneering LDL apheresis for people with severe cholesterol problems. She was born in South Wales, but grew up in England. After qualifying as a doctor at the University in Cardiff, she obtained a PhD studying catecholamines. She then worked in the NHS, becoming a consultant in medical biochemistry.

She believes passionately in exciting young people about science, and in finding novel ways to explain difficult concepts to patients. In 1993, she helped Anthony form the Darwin Centre (www.darwincentre.com), and in 1996 The Welston Court Science Centre in Pembrokeshire. She has mentored many school and university student projects. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, and was short listed for Hospital Doctor of the year in 2003.
